About Dog Friendly Accomodation

Dog Friendly Cottages was founded to help dog owners find the perfect holiday for them and their four-legged friends. But we’re not just a booking site, we’re passionate about dog-friendly travel.

Every listing has been chosen with people and paws in mind, so you can relax knowing you’re booking a stay where dogs are welcomed, not tolerated. And we’ve designed easy-to-use filters to help you find the perfect place for you and your pack – whether you’re after an enclosed garden, hot tub or somewhere that pets go free.

Meet the real experts: our office dogs 🐾

Behind the scenes, our team of humans is guided by a VIP (very important panel) of paw-some advisors – our office dogs. These seasoned snack-stealers, cottage inspectors and trail testers help keep our priorities straight – a holiday that puts pups and their parents first.

Meet Albie (the French Bulldog with big gun dog energy)

Albie

Don’t let the squishy face fool you – Albie’s a Frenchie on a mission. In his head, he’s a fully trained gun dog, expertly flushing out pheasants and patrolling the fields like he’s in the final of One Man and His Dog (only slightly less coordinated). When he’s not out in the wild, you’ll find him snoring under desks or offering emotional support in the form of cuddles. We call him our gentle giant, even if he’s built more like a burrito.

Meet Bobby (the pint-sized Maltipoo with a big voice and bigger opinions)

Bobby

Don’t be fooled by her size – Bobby runs the show. She struts into the office like she owns the place, making her presence known (usually before the door’s even open). She adores treats, being carried like royalty, and gracing select humans with her attention. Walks on a lead? Absolutely not. Groomers? Nope. But bring her to the pub, slip her some human food, and she’ll love you forever (or at least for the next five minutes).

Meet Nola (the only team member allowed to lick ears mid-meeting)

Nola

Our lap-loving Italian Greyhound is the office’s resident snuggle bug. When she’s not perfecting page load speeds, you’ll find her sneakily licking ears, or catching up on some serious nap time. She’s all in for cuddles and cozy coding sessions, but don’t even mention short walks, big dogs, or (shudder) data science. She’s proof that good things come in small, fuzzy, slightly opinionated packages.

Meet Pip (the Jack Russell never knowingly seen without her ball)

Pip

Pip’s small but mighty presence keeps the Dog Friendly Cottages office on its toes. Whether she’s patrolling for dropped snacks or insisting her ball joins every meeting, she’s a core part of the team. A loyal companion on lunchtime walks (ball in tow, of course), she brings boundless energy, a sharp eye for squirrel surveillance, and a firm stance against flea treatments and noisy interruptions.

Meet Blue (the sausage-obsessed Staffie with raptor-level loyalty)

Blue

Blue

Named after the velociraptor from Jurassic World, Blue is more cuddler than predator. He’s our honourary head of Snacks, with a love for sausages, bananas, carrots… basically anything tasty. But don’t even think about giving him any lettuce, or a bath. His superpower? Stealing hearts (and snacks) wherever he goes.

Meet Paddy (the miniature Schnauzer maxing out on mischief)

Paddy

Paddy

At just 9 months old, Paddy’s already mastered the art of chaos. He might snooze through every stand-up like he’s worked a double shift, but the second you mention “walk?” – he’s off like a rocket. In his mind, every toy was made to be stolen and paraded around with pride, and every new dog is his long-lost best friend.

Meet Aero (the cheese-obsessed Cocker Spaniel with a flair for the dramatic)

Aero

Aero’s named after a Maasai warrior, but he’s much more of a lover than a fighter – unless you’re a stranger near his ladies. He’s a public transport regular and a proud one-legged pooper. Cuddles? Yes, but only when he feels like it. Think of him as your charming, slightly snobby flatmate… with fur and better hair.

Dog Friendly Retreats was launched in 2018 with the goal of bringing the best dog friendly holiday cottages from the UK and Ireland into one easy-to-search place. We are massive dog-lovers and relish being able to connect pet owners with great places to stay.

I (Josh Williams) own and run Dog Friendly Retreats with the help of my wonderful wife, Hannah. We also have our daughter and Hungarian Vizsla, Bean, cheering us on.

I grew up in the Cornish countryside with a soppy Doberman and two bonkers Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as well as a host of other pets. I always remember the difficulty my parents would have trying to find accommodation accepting dogs. So much so that we often ended up camping instead – not that my brother or I ever minded that!

I studied Graphic Design at University and after graduating learned to build websites. After the obligatory gap year of travelling, I returned home and joined the family business, a small holiday cottage agency in a Cornish fishing village. There, I got to know the self catering business inside out.

I realised how far dog friendly accommodation had come since I was a boy, with over a third of cottages now taking them. However, there still wasn’t a central website for dog owners to go to and easily search through them. So, the idea for Dog Friendly Retreats was born.

When I’m not at my desk, you’ll find me walking along beaches and cliff paths with family and Bean in tow, jogging along country lanes or watching football.

Hannah is the social media and photography genius. Like me she’s a huge dog enthusiast. Hannah has spent time travelling around Africa and Asia, worked as a carer and NHS nurse, and is currently a full-time mum to our beautiful daughter.

We live in the lovely town of Penryn, Cornwall and try to make the very most of life in the countryside.

Here are a few FAQs:

Are you a cottage agency?

No. We list properties from many different independent property owners as well as letting agencies from all over the UK and Ireland. We provide the tools for you to search through thousands of properties and easily communicate with their respective owners or agents.

If you make a booking on or via the site, it will be managed by the respective owner or agent for the property. All further correspondence relating to the booking will be with them.

Do you add booking or pet fees to bookings?

We don’t add anything on to the accommodation cost on our side. All prices come direct from the property owner or agent so you shouldn’t get a cheaper price anywhere. An owner or agent may have their own booking or pet fee but we always include these in prices shown on our site so there shouldn’t be any nasty surprises.
