Climate Change Harrogate

Great Big Green Week

Join two million people coming together for good at thousands of events across the country!

Every year, for nine days each June, something special happens across the UK.

In towns, cities and villages, people come together to celebrate the places they love. It might be a nature walk, a repair café, a community meal, or something simple that brings people together.

That moment is called Great Big Green Week.

📅 6–14 June 2026 – mark the date in your calendar!

This year our theme is Together for Good.

Together for Good means coming together over a shared week to send a powerful message: we care, we are acting, and together we want to see action for people, climate and nature.

Climate Change Harrogate

Last year, 1.2 million people took part! This year, we’re building to make it even bigger. From nature festivals to repair cafes, community gardening to outdoor activities and everything in between – whether you are looking for something to do with children, want to meet up with friends or simply want to be part of something bigger, there is something for everyone.

And if you were part of Show the Love last month, sharing what matters most to you, Great Big Green Week is where that shared sense of care turns into visible, collective action in communities across the UK.

If you want to get a feel for what it’s all about, where it came from and how you can take part, you can start here with our explainer blog:Find out more about Great Big Green Week 👉Free training sessions for event organisersTaking part doesn’t have to be complicated. Some people organise a full programme of events. Others start small – a single gathering, an idea, a moment that brings people together. Others simply attend an event near them. It’s about what matters where you are, and getting involved in a way that works for you.If you’re thinking about organising something, we’re here to support you every step of the way! On Wednesday 1 April, we’re running a free online training session on how to organise a local event or even a whole Green Week. We’ll walk through how it works, share practical tips, and hear from organisers who’ve made it happen in their own communities.Sign up for this session 👉We’re also hosting informal drop-in sessions for event organisers in the run up to June – a chance to meet others, share ideas, ask any questions and get support as your plans take shape.Sign up for this session 👉People taking part in GBGWGreat Big Green Week looks different everywhere, because it reflects what matters locally. And that’s what makes it powerful. Because when people come together where they live, it adds up to something much bigger – showing the change that’s already happening, and the future people want to see.It shows the power we have when we act Together for Good. Be part of the UK’s largest celebration of people, climate and nature. 💚Max and the team at The Climate Coalition Climate Change Harrogate

Welcome to Zero Carbon Harrogate

We are a registered charity dedicated to making Harrogate District a net zero carbon community by 2030.

Supported by strong partnerships, we are an agent of change, offering a trusted independent voice and advocating for rapid decarbonisation.

About UsZero Carbon Harrogate (ZCH) is a volunteer-led, registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation, charity number 1192634.

Following a film viewing of Naomi Klein’s “This Changes Everything – Capitalism vs the Climate” held at the time of the 2015 Paris Climate Change Talks, we felt strongly that we must do something locally.  In January 2016, we formed a climate action group and Zero Carbon Harrogate was born! We became a Charitable Unincorporated Organisation and a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2020.

Under the patronage of Professor Piers Forster (Interim Chair for UK Climate Change Committee and Director of Priestley Centre for Climate Futures), ZCH brings together residents from different backgrounds and with different experiences to support the development of a thriving, low carbon, sustainable economy, and improve the quality of life for residents across the Harrogate area.

Together, we aim to:

  1. EDUCATE our community on the need for urgent climate action and decarbonisation.

  2. ENGAGE collaboratively with organisations and political decision-makers around climate action.

  3. SUPPORT individuals, groups and organisations in taking effective climate action.

ZCH Working Groups

Our projects and activities are organised into working groups focusing on transport, buildings & retrofit, energy, natural climate solutions, planning, advocacy & engagement.
